| Flying
in Cyprus
The
flying sites approved for paragliding in Cyprus are not many,
and most of them were developed initially for hangliding.
The most known paragliding sites are the hill of ancient CURIUM ,
DORA ,
KALO CHORIO and
STAVROVOUNI near Pyrga village(Larnaca
area) on the east side of the high-way from Limassol
to Nicosia.
The first 3 sites are
situated in the district of Limassol.
There
are many Cypriot paragliding and hanggliding pilots who are members
of the Ikaros Paragliding and Hang
gliding club and the Cyprus
Aerosport Federation .
Visitor pilots should be aware
that they can fly FREELY only
in the free part (non occupied) of the
Republic of Cyprus which is on the south part of the
island. The northern part of Cyprus since the 20th of July
1974 is under Turkish Occupation and flying there is
hazardous and prohibited, as the whole area
it is a military
area administered by Turkish occupation army. Therefore you never know if flying
there needs permission or not from the Turkish army "authorities''.
Though, there is a site used by visitor pilots near
St. Hilarion castle not far from the occupied city of Kyrenia.
If
you are coming to Cyprus don't leave your country before you print
the letter and the site
guide
